Discussion on 'Parliament’s engagement in sustainable urban planning: Developing policies in favour of citizens’ mobility, relieving traffic congestion and a healthier environment'

On 2 December PIPS held an event on the topic “Parliament’s engagement in sustainable urban planning: Developing policies in favour of citizens’ mobility, relieving traffic congestion and a healthier environment”, together with a panel of urban planning experts and MPs. During this event we’ve broadly discussed about planning cities that adjust to citizens, rather than cars and overload, and national-level coordination.

Main reccomendations from this meeting were: Deepened multi-sectorial cooperation; focus towards citizens’ mobility and drafting policies that improve the quality of environment in the long-term, though they may require courage; educating and adapting systems thinking and sustainability into policy-making; the role of academia in producing valuable research and recommendations for this aim.

On this occasion, we’ve officially launched the publication on “Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans – A joint commitment”, which outlines the process and benefits of SUMPs. You may read this publication here: https://bit.ly/2OFSlY6

This event was held with the support of GIZ Open Regional Fund for South-East Europe – Energy Efficiency.
