Roundtable and statements regarding the publication 'Responsible Reporting on Dealing with the Past and Media Challenges in Kosovo'

July 2026

PIPS organised a discussion roundtable to present a publication on responsible media reporting and dealing with the past in Kosovo.

During the roundtable, Besian Beha presented the key findings and recommendations of the Policy Brief, highlighting the importance of professional and responsible reporting when addressing issues related to the past, transitional justice, and reconciliation processes in Kosovo. The presentation opened a discussion on the role of the media in shaping public narratives, perceptions of the past, and broader public debate on justice and accountability.

Media professionals and representatives shared their professional experiences and perspectives, reflecting on the challenges journalists face when reporting on sensitive issues, including the use of appropriate language, information verification, the treatment of victims, and the need to avoid narratives that may deepen existing social divisions. The discussion also explored opportunities to strengthen reporting practices that contribute to better-informed public debate and a more careful approach to dealing with Kosovo’s past.

The roundtable continued with an open and interactive discussion, during which participants shared their perspectives and experiences and engaged in an exchange on the issues raised during the presentation, as well as on ways in which the media can contribute to a more informed, inclusive, and responsible public discourse on Kosovo’s past.

Prezentacija je otvorila diskusiju o ulozi medija u oblikovanju javnih narativa, percepcija prošlosti i šire javne debate o pravdi i odgovornosti.
